GSW congratulates new world record holder Whitehead

General Sports Worldwide has congratulated Paralympic gold medallist Richard Whitehead MBE after he set a remarkable new world record at the TCS London Marathon.

Delivering an exceptional performance, Whitehead crossed the finish line in 2:40:25, establishing a new World Marathon Record for athletes with bilateral knee amputations.

The time surpasses his previous record of 2:40:47 set just two weeks earlier at the Milano Marathon, and further improves on his Chicago Marathon record from 2024.

This milestone reinforces Whitehead’s standing as the fastest double leg amputee marathon runner in history, marking another defining moment in an already extraordinary career.

The achievement comes during a landmark edition of the London Marathon, which also saw Sebastian Sawe make global headlines with a sub-two-hour marathon performance.

This accomplishment reflects not only elite sporting excellence but also Whitehead’s continued influence as a global advocate for diversity, inclusion, and opportunity through sport.

Following a remarkable 2025 season, during which he completed 20 marathons worldwide, Whitehead has already raced six times in 2026, maintaining world-class performance levels while expanding his impact beyond competition.

General Sports Worldwide European CEO Sam Rush:

Richard continues to redefine what is possible in sport and beyond. His relentless pursuit of excellence, combined with his commitment to driving meaningful social impact, sets him apart as a truly exceptional athlete. We are incredibly proud to represent Richard and support his journey as he continues to break records and inspire communities around the world.

Whitehead’s influence extends far beyond the finish line. Through his advocacy work, speaking engagements, and partnerships, he consistently champions the power of sport to break down barriers, promote wellbeing, and create lasting change.

General Sports Worldwide remains committed to supporting Whitehead across elite performance, commercial opportunities, and global initiatives aligned with his mission to inspire and empower others.
