“True Inspiration” Whitehead sets new world mark

General Sports Worldwide’s Richard Whitehead MBE is the toast of athletics again after he set a new world record in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon over the weekend.

The 50-year-old athlete, who runs with prosthetic legs as he has a double through knee congenital amputation, has made a habit of setting world records in both the full and half marathon.

He was at it again on Sunday, covering the Chicago course in a simply stunning time of two hours, 38 minutes and 49 seconds.

It’s the second time he has set a new world record mark on the streets of Chicago, having done so previously in 2024.

Yesterday’s event marked the 107th marathon of his career and GSW’s CEO, Sam Rush, congratulated him, calling him a “true inspiration.”

Rush said:

Richard simply shows no sign of slowing down. His dedication to his sport is quite remarkable and he continues to prove why he is one of the most iconic athletes Great Britain has ever produced.

“He has achieved so much in his career, from winning Paralympic gold medals to setting world records, but he still remains hungry for more success.

“Richard is a true inspiration and all of us at General Sports Worldwide are enormously proud of our association with him and his incredible achievements.
