United States Professional Baseball League
Professional Baseball. Built The Right Way
The United States Professional Baseball League (USPBL), powered by Mortgage Matchup, brings professional baseball to the Detroit area – with a model built around innovation, quality of play and genuine player development.
Since it was founded in May 2016 by General Sports, the USPBL has established itself as one of the most exciting developmental leagues in American sport – a place where talented players are taken seriously, developed properly and given a genuine shot at the Major Leagues.
About the USPBL
The USPBL plays all of its home games at UWM Field (formerly Jimmy John’s Field) in Utica, Michigan. From the outset, the league was designed to do things differently – creating an unforgettable matchday experience for fans while building a serious, structured development environment for players with professional ambitions.
The USPBL currently features four teams:
- The Utica Unicorns;
- The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers;
- The Eastside Diamond Hoppers;
- The Westside Woolly Mammoths.
All games are played on prime days – Thursday to Sunday – from mid-May through to early September. That means the best weather Michigan has to offer, on the best days of the week, every week of the season.
A Finishing School For Professional Talent
The USPBL was designed from the ground up as a developmental finishing school – a structured pathway for top-level college baseball players seeking to break into the Major Leagues.
The programme combines:
- Elite coaching from experienced professionals;
- State-of-the-art musculoskeletal training and strength and conditioning programmes;
- Advanced sabermetric and video analysis;
- A strong focus on personal development away from the field
The quality of play is high and scouts from Major League organisations are regular fixtures at USPBL games. In eight seasons, 51 USPBL players have signed with Major League organisations — and five have gone on to make it to the Majors, including Randy Wynne (Cincinnati Reds) and Joey Wiemer (Milwaukee Brewers)
Looking Ahead
As the USPBL continues to grow and develop new ballparks in the years to come, the league’s model will remain consistent: two home teams at every venue, guaranteeing home games every weekend throughout the season. It is a structure designed to build loyalty, maximise supporter engagement, and ensure every ballpark has a genuine identity in the community it serves.
